Bartender Spotlight – Steen at The Port!

Bartender Spotlight – Steen at The Port!

We have a snort at The Port of Kenosha Beverage House and chat it up with Steen as we shine our bartender spotlight on one of Downtown Kenosha’s favorite bartenders!

Q. How long have you been bartending at The Port?
A. Almost a year and a half.

Q. What do you love about bartending?
A. Not having to put up with anyone’s crap, and feeling like I’m just hanging out with friends.

Q. Favorite band you’ve seen at The Port?
A. Big Time. They are our friends in a ska punk band from Seattle, WA. They toured out here and got them a show at The Port. It was tight.

Q. What do you love about Downtown Kenosha?
A. All the food, art, places to hang with friends, and easy access to the beach!

Q. What is your favorite cocktail to make?
A. I can make a good scratch margarita, thanks to the bartender who trained me in Washington State. Shout out to Nic Cote! She’s in real estate now.

Q. Tell us your best bar joke?
A. The past, present, and future walk into the bar.  It was tense….

Q. Best advice you’ve received behind the bar?
A. “Who cares” — You’re right, who cares !!

Q. What do you do for fun when you’re not working?
A. I love making art and see live music.

Q. What is your favorite drink?
A. I’m currently on a Tully kick (thanks Z)

Q. Tell us a little about yourself & how you got into bartending?
A. I actually started bartending while living out west a couple years ago. My friend owns a bar/venue called The Plaid Pig in Tacoma, WA. Over the summer, a friend and I painted a mural background for the stage. I asked my friend if he needed an extra bartender for a reopening – he said maybe, but then on opening day, he asked me to come in. It was crazy busy, so I learned quickly.

Q. Know any bar tricks?
A. I don’t. Maybe someday!

Q. Strangest tip you’ve ever gotten?
A. I’ve received fake $100s. Also, just the other night, I found a coupon for a free appetizer at a pizza parlor!
