Summer 2021: Kenosha’s Original HarborMarket Back Where It Belongs
Same location, enhanced visitor safety
As our community begins to return to normal in 2021, so will many of our favorite activities. A highlight of summers in Kenosha for nearly 20 years has been Kenosha’s originalHarborMarket. With its picturesque setting, nestled among the city’s museum campus and next to the sparkling blue water of Kenosha Harbor, every Saturday thousands of visitors find their way to the Market.
HarborMarket and its wide mix of vendors provides growers and farmers with an outlet for the sale of freshly picked produce and related agricultural and horticultural products. For visitors, that means access to the freshest produce without having to visit individual farm stands across the Midwest.
HarborMarket also offers a wide array of artists, artisans and crafters an outlet for the direct sale of their designs and products. If you are looking for a unique gift – jewelry, artwork, clothing, accessories, or decorative items – summer at the Market is a shopping paradise.
With its combination of the freshest farm products, prepared foods, handmade goods and the most scenic setting of any market in the Midwest, HarborMarket has become highly preferred and celebrated among local shoppers and out-of-town visitors alike. It was named one of “13 Farmers’ Markets Worth Traveling For in 2017” by Bon Appetit Magazine. HarborMarket was also named a Governor’s Tourism Award Nominee. And, perhaps most important, it is a favorite in its own backyard, having been named the 2019 and 2020 Best of Kenosha Awards recipient.
Behind the Scenes
What is not seen by a visitor to HarborMarket is the role the organization plays in supporting the vendors and its community. For 19 years, the original HarborMarket has encouraged growth of the local/regional food supply by promoting closer ties between producers and consumers. Additionally, it has developed sources of marketing, management, and agricultural information for its members.
It has always been the mission of HarborMarket to provide an educational forum for the understanding of agriculture, sustainable agriculture, art, crafts, cooking and performance arts.
Returning or Visiting for the First Time
As in the past two decades, the original HarborMarket will be found at its usual spot: 2nd Ave, between 54th and 56th streets, and on Place de Douai. It is surrounded by green space, Lake Michigan, and the museums, with easy access to the walking path, marina and streetcar transportation. Many visitors enjoy parking a few blocks away and enjoying a one-of-a-kind ride to the Market on one of Kenosha’s historic streetcars
If You Go
For summer 2021 and into the fall, HarborMarket will be open every Saturday through October 30. Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. As the community continues to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Market will adhere to strict safety measures developed in conjunction with the City of Kenosha, and in accordance with current regulations. These regulations were developed to protect vendors and customers while allowing for this essential business operation to continue.
