Say “I Do” to Shel’s Bridal – Check Out This Exclusive Q&A

Shel’s Bridal is located on the 2nd floor of the Historic Kenosha Bank Building in Downtown Kenosha. They are proud to be a full service wedding, prom, pageant boutique and more.
We sat down with owner Shel Parham for an exclusive Q&A.

Q. What services does Shel’s Bridal provide?

A. Shel’s Bridal is a full service wedding, prom and pageant boutique. We provide everything from pageant training to wedding coordinating,  alterations and custom design along with some of the most amazing gowns.

Q. Shel can you tell us how you got into bridal sales?

A. I was modeling for bridal shows and one of the boutiques kept asking for me. About 6 years ago she offered me a job Which I absolutely loved and when she closed her placed I was compelled to open my own place . Somewhere that was homey and inviting with prices that worked for our market.

Q. How many years have you been at your current location?

A. Shel’s has been in Downtown Kenosha for 3 years. It’s home, we love it.

Q. What can people expect when they come to Shel’s Bridal?

A. Great customer service, a small family boutique, and a friendly smile every single time. We pride ourselves in providing a true bridal experience for the bride and her entire party. Designer gowns, one of a kind gowns, veils, and our own original designs, all at a price any bride can afford.

Q. Tell us about your modeling/acting and pageant work?

A. Wow! Big question! I started modeling when I was 16 and did it until I graduated from college. I taught middle school for many years and I stopped modeling to focus on my career in teaching. After 19 years of teaching, I went back to modeling and fell into an acting career. Funny the different hats we wear. I competed in my first pageant at the age of 43 and won the National title against some of the most amazing, seasoned, and educated women. I still wonder how it happened. Now at 48 I have won 3 national titles and have served as a state director for the Miss United States system and currently own the national system Sweethearts of America which will be held in January 2021 in Downtown Kenosha.

Q. Can people shop for dresses at Shelsbridal.com?

A. They can, but honestly stop in and try stuff on. You deserve that experience and you may love something you never even thought of. Online shopping is really not the way to go for weddings. You just never know.

Q. What can you tell us about the 2020 Bridal show that you are organizing & putting on?

A. I direct the Kenosha Bridal Network Bridal show and expo twice a year, though covid hurt is a little this year. The event is all local wedding experts and some truly amazing bridal gowns all worn by local models. It’s a great opportunity to see what Kenosha offers and since we ask for food donations, it helps the Shalom Center too. Our next one will be in February at our new venue The Vault.

Q. Have any bridzilla stories you’d like to tell us?

A. Nope 😉 no such thing. Treat people right and they are usually pretty great to work with.

Q. Can you tell us more about the pageantry training you offer?

A. Our pageantry includes one on one training for girls starting at age two and we have women in their 60s competing this year.  We also sponsor many local queens, including several of our Miss Kenosha contestants. Great bucket list addition! Everyone should get to be a queen  💕.

Q. What can you tell us about your upcoming project, The Vault?
A.The Vault Banquet Hall and Event Venue was created to provide a quality full service wedding and event venue that our community can enjoy, be proud of, and afford. They can literally walk in with their clothes and we will do the rest. That is a true need for most young couples and we teach them how to plan a wedding as they go.  So basically I play dress up, wear a crown and help women feel their most beautiful. I can’t think of a better job.
