Nikki Centeno, owner of K9 Kibble, 5919 Sheridan Road,
was the the winner of the Wisconsin’s 2019 Emerging Small Business Person by the Small Business Administration. “I am very proud of my team, and a special thank you to the community for supporting small businesses!” Nikki recently sat down with Downtown Kenosha Magazine for this exclusive Q&A.
Q.What made you want to open your own business?
A. We opened K9 Kibble in honor of Precious, our dog, who inspired the store. We adopted her years ago from Safe Harbor Humane Society. We were frustrated while trying to find a pet food that would work for our dog, the big box stores didn’t offer the speciality services. Then whenever we would travel, we’d go to independent owned pet stores which sold the products that we never saw in this area. So, we thought if we needed them, other people in Kenosha would to, so we opened up our business in May 2013 at the original location on Sixth Avenue, and moved to our present location in 2018.
Q. Can you tell us about some of the great pet products you carry?
A.We have many but some of my personal favorites are West Paw Design toys and Fromm Family dog and cat food.
Q.What are some of the newer services you offer?
A. We have online shopping options, including curbside pick-up and home delivery.
Q. What is the most enjoyable part of owning K9 Kibble?
A. I really enjoy helping people, along with suppling a healthy lifestyle for their pets.
Q.What makes K9 Kibble stand out from the big box pet stores?
A. We specialize in great customer service. Our knowledgeable staff can help you find the perfect and healthy pet foods. And we also proudly carry ‘Made in the USA’ products.
Q. Can you tell us about the self-service dog wash station you have here?
A. For only $12, you can give you pet a shampoo and blow dry. We supply the towels and a smock to keep the owner dry. And we will clean up after you! Makes bathing your pet a breeze!
