Holiday Memories w/ Laura Belsky of the Kenosha Public Market

The holidays are always very important to small businesses and to show our support we decided to find out what is going on this holiday season at the Kenosha Public Market (indoor market 6501 3rd Avenue) as we sit down with Laura Belsky for this exclusive holiday Q&A.

How is the Kenosha Public Market prepared for the holiday season?
We’ve been busy scheduling vendors and  Santa and Mrs Claus’s visit, ordering s’more kits for the kiddo’s and creating a special Holiday market!

Is the Kenosha Public Market doing anything special for the holidays this year?
Yes we are. We have a 2 Day Merry & Bright Holiday Market at the Kemper Center on Dec.3 & 4th. We will have over 40 vendors, kids can make their own s’mores at our cozy outdoor campfire and write a letter to Santa with Mrs. Claus on Dec 3 and then visit with Santa on Dec.4th. We wil  have ‘chestnuts roasting on an open fire (really) and merry music. Enjoy lunch from several onsite vendors. There will also be special Holiday cheer from the full bar. It’s going to be a wonderful holiday market for the whole community to enjoy in a gorgeous historic location on the lake. Visitors can also enjoy the Durkee Mansion Historic Holiday Open House which is Free and the gorgeous decorated Christmas tress at the Gallery of Trees Auction!

What is your overall favorite holiday memory?
I have so many, but I’d have to say it was when my mom and dad were alive and we had huge family Christmas Eve at their home in Forest Park. Both sides of the family would attend and the house would be filled with so much laugher and love.

What is your fondest holiday memory growing up in Kenosha?
One of my fondest memories was shopping for a Christmas tree at Gretzingers. We looked forward to going with our mom, drinking our hot chocolate, and singing Christmas carols on the way to getting the perfect tree.

Where would your family shop for the holidays when you were a kid?
Definitely Sears in Pershing Plaza, Tenuta’s and Andrea’s. My mom would buy my sister and I clothes from Bisno’s downtown.

What is the best holiday gift you ever received?
I’m aging myself here but my favorite gift was a Susie-Bake-Oven – truly a gift every young girl my age wanted! I can’t say that my father, a professional chef, truly enjoyed my creative recipes but he ate them.

What is the worst holiday gift you ever received?
The first holiday without my parents.

Do you think you’re on Santa’s nice list or naughty list this year?
Most likely both! Haha.
