Dana Nelson and her husband Terry Nelson took over Kaiser’s of Kenosha in May of 2017 and they kept all of the classic menu items, and even improved upon the recipes, of course adding a few of their own new menu items.
Stop in on Mondays for half price thin crust pizza or if you’re really hungry, come in on Tuesdays for all-you-can-eat thin crust pizza. Some of their popular pizzas are the classic Godfather (Terry’s personal favorite) or the Taco Pizza, but be sure to ask about their Pizza of the Month – customers are still raving about their Pickle Pizza. In 2022, Kaiser’s continues its legacy of offering the best pizza in Kenosha in a friendly atmosphere.
Dana delivered this short but sweet exclusive Q&A.
Q. Tell us about your first job in the restaurant industry?
A. I was a hostess/server/dishwasher at Waukegan Pizza when I was 15 years old.
Q. What is your favorite part about owning/running a restaurant?
A. Being my own boss and getting to work with the most interesting man in the universe, my husband (Terry Nelson).
Q. What is the most challenging part of your job?
A. Making EVERYONE happy.
Q. What is the experience like for customer when they come to Kaiser’s?
A. They are going to get decent service, reasonably priced meal for the family, great beer and drink options, and Kenosha’s Best Pizza – voted 8 years in a row. BOOM!
Q. With the challenges of the current economy, what steps have you taken to continue to drive your business forward?
A. Holding on for dear life.
Q. What makes your business stand out from others or what is something that makes it particularly unique?
A. All you can eat pizza!
Q. How do you cope with the everyday pressures of the business?
A. I drink a lot.
Q. What advice would you give other entrepreneurs/managers/owners that are just starting out?
A. Don’t. But if you ignore that – be sure to compare pricing and do your research
Q. What is your most popular menu item?
A. Pizza, beer nuggets, pot roast potato, and RANCH
Q. What is your personal favorite menu item?
A. 10″ Pan pizza with pepperoni with a side of ranch and hot giardinera
Q. How long have you owned Kaiser’s?
A. I was the GM from 2009 until my husband and I bought it in 2017.
Q. How often do you come up with new menu items?
A. We have specials everyday, usually something the kitchen creates. If it is popular and something we can do everyday – we put it on the menu.
Q. What do you like to do for fun when you’re not at work?
A. Get tattooed, drink whisky, ride motorcycles with my husband, and travel.
Q. What do you love about Kenosha?
A. BEST COMMUNITY EVER! Like, award-worthy.
Q. What’s next for you establishment?
A. We just want to survive this wild time and continue to serve yummy food.
